Casualties typically complain of tight chests, they may cough to force air out of lungs, they spend longer breathing out than breathing in, and speech is difficult. As the attack becomes more severe and the casualty becomes weaker the amount of wheeze and effort reduces – the silent chest. This is not an indication that they are improving.
The casualty will normally self-administer using a prescription blue inhaler containing.
- Monitor vital signs.
- Keep patient calm encourage to breath with you.
- The advanced first aider may administer oxygen and confirm oxygen saturation with a pulse-oximeter.
